A little over two weeks after the school massacre in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24 that left 21 dead, including 19 children, armed violence has once again raged across the United States. An unidentified gunman opened fire at a factory in Smithburg, western Maryland, Thursday afternoon, killing several people, according to local authorities.
Three people died and two were injured, according to a Washington County sheriff’s report. Among the wounded is a member of the security forces who was shot in the shoulder during an exchange of gunfire with the attacker.
Suspect shot and injured
According to NBC News, the attack took place around 2:30 p.m. local time. The suspect, who the sheriff said was shot and injured in a standoff with Maryland State Police, has been hospitalized but his condition is uncertain at this time.
BREAKING: Gov. Larry Hogan says he was briefed about the Smithburg shooting.
He says he understands 3 people have been killed and next of kin will be notified.
