(ANSA) — WASHINGTON, APRIL 27 — The United States has received “credible information” that a Russian military unit would execute Ukrainians attempting to surrender near Donetsk. This was explained to the UN by Criminal Justice Ambassador General Beth Van Schaack, according to CNN.
The US has also received reports documenting “executions of people with their hands tied, torture and sexual violence against women and girls”. “These reports suggest that the atrocities are not the result of individual actions, but a disturbing pattern of systematic abuses in all areas where Russian forces operate,” he said. “Those who unleashed, committed and ordered these crimes will be held accountable, and the evidence of these acts is mounting by the day,” said Van Schaak.
“Our message to Russia’s military and political leaders is simple: the world is watching and you will be held accountable,” the ambassador warned.
The United States is cooperating on several investigations into atrocities committed by Russia in Ukraine, including those of the CPI, the UN and the OSCE, Van Shaak said. (HAND).
