Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the face of the American Democratic Left, caused a stir when she attended the Met Gala (Metropolitan Museum) on September 13, 2021 in New York. The slogan “Tax the Rich” was engraved on her stunning white dress, which was designed by Brother Vellie’s stylist Aurora James. A snub was noticed at this mythical reception in Manhattan, organized by the fashion giant Anna Wintour, patron of Vogue (Condé Nast group), at which the entire American elite, on condition of paying 35,000 dollars (32,865 euros), their takes up space.
“Tax the Rich”: “AOC” was very proud of his media stunt. “The message is the medium,” she tweeted. So much so that she forgot… to pay her bills. The New York representative in the US Congress, who is in the movement of progressive Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, is now in the crosshairs of the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) for having de facto illegitimately adopted for Gifts she paid only after said independent committee looked into the matter.
Details of the investigation were released on Thursday, March 2nd. Among the services received, “AOC” benefited from transportation from their home to the Carlyle Hotel, a luxury hotel where Woody Allen played jazz, near the Met, to prepare; a room in the Carlyle; a makeup and hairdressing service; a dress, shoes, jewelry and purse from Brother Vellies; and transportation to the Met.

The issue of the representative’s “Tax the Rich” outfit is more complex as Aurora James and brother Vellies refuse to cooperate with the Congressional Ethics Committee investigation. What is certain is that the stylist already sent out a first bill for $2,283.93 (for the rental of the dress, the handbag and the purchase of the shoes) on September 19, 2021. On September 20, after consultation with the parliamentary team, a new bill, reduced to $990.76, was mailed.
