Use: Barbara Walters, star of the small screen , died

(ANSA) — NEW YORK, DECEMBER 30 — Barbara Walters, the US small screen star and longtime ABC host, has died at the age of 93. ABC itself reports it. Walters joined ABC News in 1976 and became the first female anchor on an evening news program.

Walters spent 50 years in front of the camera until he was 84. During her career, the American icon has interviewed the big celebrities: her questions have been answered by all US Presidents from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama, but also by the Shah of Iran, Muammar Gaddafi and Fidel Castro. Her rise paved the way for other successful anchors. She got her first steps at NBC, then landed on ABC in 1976 and made headlines as the “million dollar baby” for her five-year, $5 million contract.
