The thieves stole more than 4,200 cases of Malibu and Jose Cuervo-branded alcohol bottles worth more than $1.6 million (C$2.1 million) from a Florida distribution company.

An investigation has been launched into this incident, which allegedly took place on July 8 at the Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC) in Florida, reports CNN, which was able to get its hands on a search warrant.

The crime is said to have been committed between 4:10 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. when the thieves allegedly used tractor-trailers to transport the 4,277 stolen boxes.

Authorities obtained video from surveillance cameras of the facility and the surrounding area, which allowed them to identify and then locate the trailers used.

No suspects have been arrested in this case so far.

“Although we cannot comment at this time as this is an ongoing investigation, we are confident that the authorities are taking this matter seriously and will take all necessary measures to find those responsible for this crime,” explains the vice president for communications of the RNDC.

The authorities’ investigations are ongoing.
