«Rome is the place where everything begins: life, people, our stories, our identities are here. We belong to this place as this place belongs to the world and to Valentino». The “new beginning” of the house run by Pierpaolo Piccioli is an ode to the city that will return tonight in his Rome, the place where Valentino Garavani opened his first fashion house in Via Condotti over 60 years ago. At the very end of the capital’s most famous shopping street, the models will parade along a 600-metre walkway that will connect Piazza Mignanelli, home of the house, with Piazza di Spagna.

The Homage

“A symbol of art and history, but for all of us it is our daily life, a work context, the subway station, the lunch break, taxi, rain and sun, coffee – explained Piccioli – The natural extension of the atelier, the stage of our stories , a vital environment that absorbs and returns all our energy and dreams “. The daily thought of many Romans, who move daily in the midst of so much beauty, often without even realizing it. And Piccioli knows it well: originally from Nettuno, where he still lives, the bond with the capital is as strong as that of the historic home he runs.

story

Valentino’s first fashion show in Piazza di Spagna took place in 1985. The shots of Valentino Garavani posing with the seamstresses and model makers of his busy atelier are jumping on social media: yesterday the same scene was reproduced with Piccioli’s collaborators during the dress rehearsal. And tonight everything will begin (again): “The Beginning”, as the Haute Couture 2022-2023 collection is called, will take place at 8.30pm and will mark an important return for the Maison and the city of Rome.

Historically, Valentino’s haute couture shows have taken place in Paris, but Piccioli chose Venice last year and symbolically returned home this year. An important return also for Rome, which has not seen the models descend the stairs of the Trinità dei monti since the end of the cult show “Woman under the Stars” in 2003 and which seems to snub high fashion all too often, with a few exceptions, at the fashion shows of last years. Like Gucci, which held its fashion show in the Capitoline Museums a few years ago, or Laura Biagiotti in Piazza del Campidoglio. Rome caputo mode, at least for this evening.
