Long before Valerie Bertinelli’s delicious recipes graced the pages of your favorite cooking magazines, the young actress – fueled by soap opera fame and her rock star ex-husband Eddie Van Halen – captured the hearts of readers from glossy centerfolds. In a recent Instagram post, the 63-year-old shared a throwback photo from one of these shoots, in which she wore a black leotard and posed with her hand in her styled hair (presumably from the 80s).
She captioned the post with a simple hashtag and a kiss emoji: “💋 #waybackwednesday.” Fans loved the blast from the past. “Beautiful then and now. ❤️,” one person commented. “I grew up right next to you! It’s so nice to remember the nostalgia of it all and it’s so nice to see the wonderful person you are today!” another added. “Valerie, you are timeless. ❤️💐,” another wrote. When someone else asked how old she was in the picture, the Food Network star jokingly replied, “Early 20s or early 1920s, I can’t remember which one 😛.”
Some may consider her 20s her “prime,” but at 63, Bertinelli is currently living her age. She recently celebrated her birthday and shared the immense gratitude and love she felt for achieving this milestone.
“I am overjoyed and grateful for my birthday this year! 🙏🏻🤍,” she captioned an Instagram video marking the occasion. “I’ve survived the hardest six years of my life and am now in Amsterdam (one of my favorite places in the world with beautiful, special memories 🥹) And on Thursday I get to watch my son open for Metallica! 🤘🏻🎤 🎸 Life is good. ✨” As the backtrack, she chose the song “Grateful” by Connor Price, which says: “Yeah, I woke up feeling grateful, grateful. Everything I prayed for has come, so I’m so grateful.”
Bertinelli often shares photos from her past, whether from vintage shoots or from her family’s photo archives. In another throwback, she shared a snapshot from a 2009 photo shoot with Ladies’ Home Journal in which she is seen lying on the sand, her matching beige outfit splashed with water and her long waves tangled and damp. She jokingly captioned the post, “‘washy actress’😜.”
One thing is for sure: Bertinelli has been through a lot in her life, but she has always done her best to stay positive and maintain a sense of humor. That’s why we love her throwback posts – her perspective on the past, be it fond or not so fond memories, is always refreshing.
