A 22-year-old man suffering from a mental disorder killed his father, the imam of Rosas, during what appeared to be a maniacal gasp.
Around midnight, Sunday night, the Mossos d’Esquadra were called to an apartment in Vilafant, a suburb of Figuères, for an alleged murder.
Upon arrival, Catalan police located the victim, a 50-year-old man, but the alleged attacker, armed with a gun, was barricaded in the apartment’s bathroom. The intervention of officials specialized in maintaining public order was necessary for the smooth running of the event.
Hours of screaming that the devil was in the house
According to witnesses quoted by the Diari de Girona newspaper, the arrested young man, aged 22, screamed for hours that “the devil” was in the house and that he “wanted to drive him out”. It was the uncle of the alleged perpetrator who issued the warning.
After investigations, the victim was identified as an imam of one of the Rosas mosques. The alleged perpetrator of the facts would be none other than his son, who was clearly insane, even if the reasons for his gesture have yet to be clarified.
On his return home, the Rosas imam was said to have been attacked by his son, with multiple stab wounds to the neck. The victim also showed signs of injuries that could have been caused by a screwdriver that the alleged perpetrator was carrying when he was arrested.
The alleged perpetrator suffered from a psychiatric history, which is why he was hospitalized, and was taken to Figuères hospital by his father on Saturday, very distraught.
After his arrest, he was evacuated to a medical center before being handed over to the Mossos.
