Other attractions, this time national, have canceled their shows at the Maranhão Open Air Festival taking place this weekend in the city of São Luís. Vazio and Azul Limão announced through social networks that they will no longer perform due to problems with the organization of the event.

The first name to drop out of the lineup was Azul Limão. In a statement, the heavy metal band claimed the production failed to meet contract terms.
“ATTENTION: Due to contractual conditions that could not be met by the production of MOA Maranhão Open Air, Azul Limão could not take part in the festival.
Out of respect for the fans, we are making this announcement at the moment when we have determined that our participation is not possible.
To date, every effort has been made to allow the band to participate, but to no avail.
We wish everyone involved in this event a good show: participating bands, production and audience.
We know that organizing a festival of this size is not easy and adverse factors do occur.
Azul Limão will not be short of opportunities to return to the Northeast.”

Hours later, The Void also announced that it would no longer be performing. The black metal group said they did not receive plane tickets to travel from São Paulo to São Luís.
“As many know, we were one of the attractions at the Vazio on 12/11. of the Maranhão Open Air Festival, but we are sorry to have to publicly state that we will NOT be performing at this event.
Coincidentally, despite knowing the negative history of organizing the event, we chose to give credence to the apparent commitment of the organizers, a fact that did not come to pass.
Up to this publication we have not received any flight tickets, which makes it impossible for us to fulfill this obligation.
O Vazio is a band working in the spheres of extreme music, the result of earnest work by its living and deceased members and a necrosophical egregore of devotion to powerful ancestors.
To our fans, we reaffirm our promise to perform our death and rebirth ritual in the northern and northeastern regions of Brazil in 2023.
We wish sickness and death to the false and fallen.”
event response
In a note this Saturday morning (12), Maranhão Open Air states that the festival remains confirmed and will include a total of 21 attractions, as Scrok has recently entered to make up for some of the absences already reported. As for the Vazio and Azul Limão cancellations, it was claimed that it was impossible to “resolve some problems with the flights within the required time”.
The organization even released two updated lineups. One of them didn’t have the name Gangrene Gasosa either, but the other has the group’s logo. Despite the misunderstanding, the Rio de Janeiro band’s press office confirms that they will remain at the event.
Satan and I am morbid
In the last few days, the international attractions Satan and I Am Morbid have also canceled their shows not only at the Maranhão Open Air but also in other cities. The reasons are different.
In the networks, Satan explained that he will not play at the event in Maranhão and at the Open the Road Festival in São Paulo because he did not receive flight tickets or an advance payment on time. They claim that the flight conditions were not agreed until four hours before boarding.
The organization of the Open the Road festival confirmed the information disclosed by the band, maintained the event which featured the flagelador as a substitute attraction and said that the musicians’ arrival to Brazil was dependent on the production of the event in Maranhão.
In turn, the organization of Maranhão Open Air claimed that the passport was one of the members of Satan’s band. An image of the document was posted, indicating that it was valid until September 2019. They further stated that other flight conditions were offered after the request, but the musicians did not accept it.
In the case of I Am Morbid, the situation arose for reasons outside the scope of Maranhão Open Air. The shows that the band would be performing alongside the São Luís event in Fortaleza and Brasília were canceled due to Hurricane Nicole in the US state of Florida, which caused the suspension of flights. The other dates in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Limeira and São Paulo were retained, as were the presentations in Argentina, Chile and Peru. The Troops of Doom were preserved in the opening.

Connection with Metal Open Air
Since the announcement, Maranhão Open Air has had an impact because it has been linked to one of the organizers of Metal Open Air, a festival that has become the biggest scandal in the history of national metal.
The event, scheduled to take place on April 20th, 21st and 22nd, 2012, was to include 47 shows by national and international artists. Only 14 performed in a structure far from what had been promised. The last appointment was completely cancelled.
The public also suffered poor conditions, including stable housing, poor sanitation, transportation issues, limited catering options, and records of robberies near and within the venue.
A report by G1 Maranhão indicates that the public has not yet been compensated for the damage suffered. Although the organizers were convicted in 2018, compensation for moral damage remains suspended. The amount allocated to each person who attended the event was set at R$ 3,541.83. Both parties involved in the implementation of the festival have spoken. Click here for more details.
