Venezuela and Colombia reactivate flights between the two capitals

The connection between the two capitals Caracas and Bogotá will initially take place on Mondays and Saturdays, said the commercial director of Turpial Airlines, Alejandro Dugarte, on Friday.

He specified that the departure for the capital of New Granada is scheduled for 17:00 local time, arrival half an hour later and the ticket cost is between 380 and 390 dollars.

Dugarte announced that in future the route from Valencia in the state of Carabobo to Bogotá will also be put into operation.

Last September, the national airline Conviasa flew once a week with charter flights to the Colombian capital, Venezuelan Transport Minister Ramón Velázquez reported at the time.

On September 26, Caracas and Bogotá reopened the border after a seven-year closure, a step taken as part of the process to resume diplomatic relations after three years of rupture.

During his recent visit to Venezuela, Colombian President Gustavo Petro and his counterpart Nicolás Maduro signed a joint statement agreeing to revitalize and resolve critical knots in land, air, river and sea transport.

They agreed to set up working groups on both energy and energy issues to explore and establish new schemes of complementarity on both sides.

The Presidents also proposed creating a new cooperation map based on the principles of fraternity, solidarity and complementarity, which will make relations between the two countries more effective.

Both nations resumed diplomatic relations on August 29 with the handing over of the credentials to President Maduro by the here-appointed Colombian Ambassador Armando Benedetti, an action he repeated on September 7 in front of Petro in Bogotá, Félix Plascencia.

Both countries broke ties in February 2019 due to the insolence of self-proclaimed President Juan Guaidó in his intentions to violate the legitimacy of the constitutional government of the Bolivarian Republic with the support of the United States and the state of New Granada.
