Venezuela calls for a common agenda for real cooperation between Celac and the EU

In her speech to the plenum of the III. At the summit meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and the European Union (EU), which ends this Tuesday, the Deputy President declared that the Bolivarian Republic’s proposal was “very clear”. .

In this sense, he called for the creation of permanent communication and coordination mechanisms between CELAC and the EU, in which, according to him, there are many ways of working together and meeting, but overcoming divergences and differences.

He emphasized that his country’s message is one of unity, peace, coordination and friendship, and that it comes from a people that are under severe economic pressure.

Rodríguez denounced that in Latin America and the Caribbean we have “three countries that are victims of illegitimate blockades” such as the cases of Cuba, Nicaragua and the Bolivarian Republic.

He pointed out that the economic aggression against Venezuela also affects many of the partners present at today’s summit, such as European energy companies that have business projects.

In the case of the region, he mentioned Petrocaribe, a mechanism that he believes came into being to alleviate the financial and economic situation of the Caribbean states and which, following the decree of former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) to zero in 2015 fell.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, who is also Minister, recalled that in the case of Haiti, four billion dollars have been made available through a mechanism to take care of the country to which “we have historical debts”, pointing out that only a few days ago a multinational force was authorized due to severe internal instability.

Rodríguez stressed that economic aggression against Venezuela has become a real instrument of destabilization in Latin America and the Caribbean.

He believed that respect for international legality was the only thing that could protect us from the great hegemonic powers, and in this sense stated that the blockade was a direct violation of the United Nations Charter and the International Covenant on Civil and represent political law.

Since CELAC and the EU are two unbalanced blocs, it is right to correct these imbalances, said the Deputy President. For this it is necessary to show a real willingness to cooperate in the face of major challenges such as the climate crisis.

He meant that the blockade against his country had also stopped concrete action projects to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis, pointing out that the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic that causes Covid-19 has shown that we as peoples don’t assume that together “we will not be able to solve the greatest challenges on the planet”.
