Venezuela became the first team to play in the American host cities to advance to the second round of the V World Baseball Classic after winning four heats to one against Nicaragua.

In the second inning, the Nicaraguans started with a run up front, but that was all they could do offensively.

Instead, those of the Bolivarian Republic countered with three in the fourth and another in the fifth to confirm themselves as the only undefeated Group D.

For the first cluster, consecutive singles by Eugenio Suárez and Andrés Jiménez were paired with men on base, and the last was a double by Anthony Santander that allowed Luis Rengifo to score.

Left-hander Eduardo Rodríguez could only last two innings for the Llanero team, but he only assisted that result, and the other five pitchers who climbed the mound kept opposing attack to a minimum.

At night Israel meets the Dominican Republic in a clash that can clear things up in this segment to meet the second ranked.
