Venezuelan Foreign Minister highlights CELAC's role in dialogue with Guyana

CARACAS, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil on Monday stressed the importance of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in the dialogue between Venezuela and Guyana on the Essequibo, assuring that it is “the most important vaccine against Disturbances”.

“CELAC has shown that it is a strengthened body,” he added during a meeting with the media at Casa Amarilla, the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Caracas.

This weekend, CELAC invited the Presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and Guyana, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, to speak in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Thursday, December 14, about the controversy between the two countries over the Essequibo territory .

The proposal was accepted by the parties involved, who also agreed to Brazil's participation.

Regarding Brazil's role in the talks, Gil emphasized that the country is an important partner of CELAC and highlighted the determination of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva to promote dialogue, who will also be present at Thursday's meeting.

“It was a crucial position in the realization of a dialogue, like that of Ralph Gonsalves (Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines), the 'pro tempore' president of CELAC,” he added.

The Chancellor also pointed out that the Caribbean Community (Caricom), like CELAC, was committed to dialogue.

Venezuela has been calling on Guyana to engage in dialogue since September 25 this year and therefore considers the holding of the bilateral meeting a success.
