“20 years after the salvation of national dignity, we flock to the streets of Caracas and reaffirm our will to be free, sovereign and independent,” the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) wrote on its Twitter account.

For his part, PSUV Vice-President for Mobilization and Events, Pedro Infante, stressed that the Bolivarian Revolution will celebrate the date when fascism was defeated in Venezuela and the historic leader of the revolution returned to power.

This day is also celebrated as the Day of the Bolivarian Militia, born as a result of the alliance that ruined the April 2002 coup attempt.

The Venezuelan right provoked a coup after a harsh media campaign against the supreme Bolivarian leader and the progressive ideals he represented, as oligarchic sectors in complicity with the military high command, the Church and private media allied to overthrow the Bolivarian revolution.

The plan for the killing involved a massacre of the people in the streets near the Miraflores Palace to frame the President and his commanders.

President Chávez remained kidnapped from the start of the April 11 coup until April 13, when he was rescued by soldiers loyal to him who joined the people in putting an end to the attempted coup.
