According to the public prosecutor’s office, the agency will ask Interpol to raise a red alert because of Guaidó’s arrest. The application will be based on investigations by a US court.
The Venezuelan lawmaker says the United States court found that Guaidó used resources from PDVSA a stateowned oil producer to pay personal expenses and also forced the company to accept conditions for refinancing a government debt.
The organization also says that Guaidó’s actions against the state oil company caused losses of US$19 billion (R98 billion), in addition to the almost final loss of Citgo, a subsidiary of PDVSA in the United States.
“The government [autoproclamado] “De Guaidó accessed and used assets of PDVSA’s U.S. subsidiaries for financing, thereby circumventing any rights PDVSA may have to corporate dividends,” the prosecutor said.
When Guaidó proclaimed himself president of Venezuela, the Venezuelan leader was recognized by several countries, including the United States.
In a statement, Saab said the investigation indicates that Guaidó is an “international criminal” and leader of a structured “criminal gang.”
“Prosecutors have been instructed to issue an arrest warrant for him and the corresponding Red Alert request from Interpol to make this individual pay for these crimes that are known to the United States Department of Justice and which he is making public,” Saab said.
According to the State Ministry, Guaidó is being investigated for treason, abuse of office, embezzlement and money laundering, among other crimes.
In addition, the interim government of the Venezuelan opposition is the subject of more than 25 investigations by the Ministry of State for abuse of power, money laundering, terrorism, arms trafficking, treason and association.
The State Ministry reported that Guaidó’s selfproclaimed government made fictitious appointments to the boards of directors of stateowned companies as well as ambassadors and chargé d’affaires to represent Venezuela in other countries.
According to the Venezuelan MP, all investigations against Guaidó and the selfproclaimed government have already led to 129 arrests and 63 convictions.
“This shows the tireless fight of the Ministry of State against those who betray the country and seek to destroy the climate of political stability, peace and peaceful coexistence that has cost us so much in terms of institutions and people, in a way and Sage who is a role model for the world,” said Saab.
Currently, Venezuela’s opposition is organizing to choose a candidate to run against Nicolás Maduro in the 2024 presidential election.
