Verizon confirmed that “recurring problems” were affecting its network on Friday after New Yorkers and other East Coast customers said they had trouble making or receiving phone calls.
DownDetector, a site that tracks interruptions, noted a jump in reports starting around 1 p.m. ET. A map of interruptions shows that the reports appear to be concentrated on the East Coast, many of them from New York and Boston.
A Verizon spokesman said the service was restored from around 3 p.m.
“Earlier this afternoon, a recurring problem prevented some customers from making or receiving phone calls. Our network teams have identified and fixed the problem and all services have been restored, “said a Verizon spokesman.
It is not yet clear what caused the outage or how many customers were affected.
New York City Councilor Justin Brannon was among Verizon’s users who reported problems Friday afternoon.
