Dinosaurs lived at a time when the earth was very different. The continents were still grouped together in Pangea. They belong to the archosaur group, which also includes crocodiles and pterosaurs.
These animals could walk on two legs and were more agile than quadrupeds. Over the years they have evolved adaptations to live in different ecological niches.
The first dinosaurs lived together with other animals such as rhynchosaurs and archosaurs, which belonged to the thecodont group. A mass extinction event is believed to have occurred around 201 million years ago, killing several species.
But it was around 66 million years ago that dinosaurs were confronted with the KT event that led to a major catastrophe after an asteroid impact on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It caused destruction and drastically changed the climate on Earth.
