Viagra manufacturer stops deliveries to Russia

Russia has received a blow below the belt from American pharmaceutical company Viatris, which has halted shipments of Viagra to Vladimir Putin’s country, the Chron reports.

The maker of the popular erectile dysfunction pill, a sister company of giant Pfizer, said it made the decision because of the conflict in Ukraine.

The sanctions imposed on Russia and the more difficult transport of goods have severely affected Viatris’ activities in the largest country in the world.

“Viagra” made in Russia

In response to this decision, the Russian pharmaceutical industry has already been working to produce more drugs with the same active ingredient as Viagra to meet demand.

Production of Sildefanil, the generic name for Viagra, has already increased by more than 11% in Russia over the past year.

According to the Russian news agency Tass, 36 Russian companies produce sildefanil.
