Victim shot in front of hairdresser: “I am not a murderer,” claims a man guilty of premeditated murder –

Just before he was sent to prison for the next 25 years, a man recently found guilty by a jury The man accused of premeditated murder repeatedly announced on Wednesday: “I am not a murderer.”

“In front of the mirror, I don’t see myself as a murderer. I never intended to kill this man,” Selwin George Chin lamented again this afternoon for more than a dozen minutes before the court formalized its verdict.

Last Thursday, the 43-year-old was found guilty of first-degree murder after a lengthy jury trial at the Montreal courthouse.

He was therefore automatically sentenced to life imprisonment, with no possibility of release for 25 years.

During his defense, Chin attempted to sway the jury by arguing that he did not intend to kill Mark Jackson when he shot him on February 15, 2020.

Generous and passionate

Relatives of Mark Jackson, who nicknamed himself “Juvi,” were able to speak in court on Wednesday.

“I never imagined that someone he called his friend could take his life. Every time I walk past this hair salon I burst into tears,” testified Kedisha Samuels, the deceased’s younger sister, who said she had lost the one who protected her.

Then the victim’s partner, described as a generous, caring man with a passion for cooking and politics, spoke to the attacker.

“During your time in prison, I hope you take the time to notice how many lives you have impacted. “How could the lack of emotional control have cost you,” Alicea Walker told Chin.

He doesn’t want to be hated

Following these moving statements, the defendant, who was offered the floor, complained at length about the fate that awaited him and which, in his opinion, he did not deserve.

He gave a speech that visibly shocked the victim’s family in the audience.

“I’m sorry this man died. No, he didn’t deserve to die. I know I didn’t want to kill him. “I don’t mean to disrespect anyone, but you know that man attacked me,” he grumbled before starting to cry.

“I don’t want the world to hate me. “I’m not a murderer,” Chin continued, despite Judge Daniel Royer’s attempts to put an end to his intervention.

“The court hopes that Mr Chin will begin to realize the extent of the harm he has caused,” the judge concluded in handing down the sentence.
