Victor Wanyama shoots red balls at his coach

CF Montreal midfielder Victor Wanyama has made it no secret that there is a bad feeling between him and head coach Hernan Losada.

On Tuesday, the 32-year-old Kenyan reiterated at Bleu-Blanc-Noir’s season review that the players’ opinions “didn’t count” for the Argentine pilot.

He added that “communication was not good” and that he was never informed of the reasons for his withdrawal from training.

In 2023, his fourth season with CF Montreal, Wanyama played 25 games, including 20 as a starter. He played a total of 1,788 minutes, which is 848 minutes less than last year. The designated player has been used for just 105 minutes in the team’s last 11 games.

Last January, Wanyama signed a new two-year contract with the Montreal team. He expects to be back in 2024.

“I still have a valid contract and I believe I will be here next year,” he said.

“The club trusted me. Olivier [Renard, le chef de la direction sportive du CF Montréal] trusted me. Everyone wanted me to play here. They wanted me to come and help the club and I was happy with that. I don’t regret it because we all had the same goal.”

“What happened was beyond my or Olivier’s control. It was just one who decided whether I played or not. This is it,” Wanyama also said.

For his part, Losada did not address his disgruntled player’s opinion.

“I heard all the players’ comments today [mardi] and it’s easy to see who had a good season and who didn’t,” he said.

“Sometimes a player has to accept that a young person is playing in his place because he is better than you.”

Like Wanyama, Losada has a valid contract for the next CF Montreal season.

“You have to meet with management first and analyze the season. […] “I have a contract, but in the world of football it can be a simple piece of paper,” the coach replied when asked about a return to the club’s helm next year.
