VIDEO A “completely unjustified invasion of Iraq…I mean Ukraine”: George W. Bush’s slip

In criticizing the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, former US President George W. Bush made a mistake by incorrectly referring to Iraq, where he launched a military invasion in 2003.

A slip that couldn’t be clearer. Invited to speak at an event in Dallas, Texas this Wednesday, former United States President George W. Bush spoke of a “completely unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq” before correcting himself: “I mean, from Ukraine.”

“The result is the lack of a balance of power in Russia and a one-man decision to launch a totally unwarranted and brutal invasion of Iraq,” former US President George W. Bush said before commenting. “I mean from Ukraine”.

The slip-up by the former President of the United States, speaking at an event in Dallas this Wednesday, caused general laughter in the congregation. Then he ridiculed himself by pointing to his advanced age to justify his mistake.

In 2003, George W. Bush, then President of the United States, had launched the American invasion of Iraq under the guise of responding to a threat of weapons of mass destruction – which later turned out never had existed. A military invasion, which is therefore largely classified as unjustified by the international community.

The scene was captured on video by a local journalist:

In his speech on Wednesday, the former US chief also called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “cool little guy” (sic) and then the “21st century church”.
