A judge decided to keep it Behind bars is a Center-du-Québec resident who was allegedly filmed pointing a gun and then opening fire on a person over a trivial argument on Facebook.
The disturbing scene was captured on a surveillance camera and the images show that the close-range shooting allegedly took place in the middle of a residential area while a child was nearby.
“The main reason for Mr.'s detention was that it was necessary in order not to undermine the public's confidence in the administration of justice,” explains Mr. Frédéric Ouellet, Crown prosecutor, a few days after the decision of Judge Marc-Nicolas Foucault, in the file of Jérémy Rioux-Lussier.
Jérémy Rioux-Lussier, defendant. Photo evidence submitted in court
The 26-year-old Odanak resident will remain in custody at the Sorel-Tracy Courthouse until the end of the legal proceedings against him, it was recently decided.
He faces seven charges, including, among other things, firing a firearm without regard for the lives of others, particularly that of his victim, Alex Michon, a painting contractor from the Saint-François-du-Lac region.
“All of this is due to a conflict on Facebook,” explains Me Ouellet about these events, which occurred in two phases last summer in the small community of less than 2,000 inhabitants.

On June 16, insults against the two men were allegedly published in the comments section of a Facebook post, the court said.
Then the next morning, Mr. Michon noticed that his rowboat had burned during the night. It wouldn't have taken him any longer to suspect Rioux-Lussier.
Shortly after 4:50 p.m., the entrepreneur appeared with his “pick-up” truck in the parking lot of a residential building where the defendant was.
On the videotape from a surveillance camera installed in the residence, we can quickly see Rioux-Lussier pointing a gun at Mr. Michon as he approaches him.
Everything takes place in front of the eyes of a pink-dressed toddler, who can be seen in the video image below.
9mm pistol
A few moments later, two other people intervened in the heated argument between the defendant and the victim.
At some point, Mr. Michon returns to his vehicle, but something seems to provoke him.
As the 40-year-old tried to return to the three people, Rioux-Lussier opened fire four times in his direction, without concern for the proximity of the other two people who were standing nearby.
However, Mr. Michon doesn't flinch a bit during the shots. He then kicks an object onto the defendant's property before leaving the scene.
Of the four 9mm shell casings found at the scene, only one hit the victim, according to analysis by the ballistics expert.
She reportedly suffered a fractured left heel and trauma to her ankle.
Rioux-Lussier was arrested at the end of the police investigation last November.
Significant sentence
At the time of the events, he already had a court order prohibiting him from owning a firearm for ten years.
“A reasonable person would expect such a person to remain in custody while awaiting trial,” Me Ouellet added.
According to the public prosecutor's office, if found guilty, the defendant could face a prison sentence of four to seven years.
His case was back in court this morning. The case has been postponed until next January.
