A boat built from 1,500kg of expired chocolate set off on its first-ever voyage to the port of Pasaia in Spain on Thursday, after a month and a half of work for a team of around 40 chefs and shipbuilders.
Last Thursday, the impressive chocolate rowing boat with a length of 26 feet, the equivalent of eight meters, is said to have set sail with two volunteer pastry chefs from the team on board, as “The Mirror” reported. SATURDAY.
“The keel, the top and the seats are made of wood, but the rest and the base are made of chocolate,” confirmed Lorena Gomez, President of Gozoa, one of the project’s promoters.
In a video shared on Twitter, we can see the boat being launched in the port of Pasaia, in northern Spain, to the screams of the crowd.
According to British media, the latter was a replica of a 16th-century whaling boat that sank in the Atlantic off Canada.
For this first test, the extraordinary ship was accompanied by some wooden boats to catch up with the two sailors in case the ship melted or sank – not knowing how chocolate would react in salt water.
But after 30 minutes of sailing, it was declared seaworthy, according to local media.
