This Tuesday, November 7, 2023, an American killed two activists who were present at an environmental demonstration against a mining project in Panama.
The drama took place this Tuesday, November 7th, in Chame, Panama. During a “dispute over a roadblock,” a 77-year-old American shot two environmental demonstrators, Belgian media report 7 out of 7. Both people died, police said.
“It stops today”
There have been demonstrations against a controversial mining project in the country for several weeks. While a roadblock was being organized this Tuesday on the Inter-American Highway that connects Panama to the rest of Central America, Kenneth Darlington, a 77-year-old former lawyer and professor, opened fire on the activists. Be careful, the images widely shared on social networks are difficult.
The latter is said to have gotten out of his car and said: “It will stop today.” When an activist sees the driver’s gun, he asks him why he doesn’t shoot, a second asks him if he is going to kill someone. Kenneth Darlington eventually opened fire. The two victims died on site, reports Le Matin.
The septuagenarian then got back into his car and said to his partner: “Go on.” He refused and called the police. He was remanded in custody after appearing before a judge. The former lawyer is accused of murder and illegal possession of weapons.
Express my condolences to the families of the citizens who lost their lives in an incident registered on this website in a sector of Panama West. It’s about a guy who doesn’t live in a company that shows solidarity with us.
