A video highlighting 9/11e The anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting is going viral on social media.
We see a little girl drowning in her swimming pool, under the indifferent gaze of her neighbors as they go about their business and send her “their thoughts and prayers.” The ad ends by pointing out that gun violence is the leading cause of death among American children.
The initiative, called Thoughts and Prayers, was launched by Mothers for Democracy, a group of mothers working to reform gun access in the United States. This is the first video of a campaign that is scheduled to launch in the 2024 election year.
“The “Thoughts and Prayers” video highlights the hypocrisy of people who send “their thoughts and prayers” while continuing to live as if nothing had happened,” the organization describes in a text that accompanies the video.
“It has been 11 years since the mass shooting of children and their teachers at Sandy Hook School shocked the nation. Despite the trauma, no reforms were implemented. Thoughts and prayers will not stop the shootings. We need concrete action,” said Nancy Thompson, one of the movement’s leaders.
