Video captures frantic 911 call

The harrowing doorbell video captured the moments after former NBA player Adreian Payne was gunned down in Florida – as a woman posing as his mother and begging 911 help.

“Please help me! Help me! He shot my son. Help me! I don’t know the address. He shot him! He just died. Please help me!” The woman can be heard screaming, according to footage obtained by Fox 35 News.

A shot rang out seconds before and two people can be seen on Egret Shores Drive in Orlando on Monday.

Payne, 31, a former Michigan State star who played four seasons in the NBA, including for the Orlando Magic, was allegedly killed by Lawrence Dority outside the suspect’s home, police said.

Dority, 29, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder with a firearm on Tuesday.

According to legal documents, a police witness said Payne came to Dority’s home to possibly act as an “intermediary” between Dority and his girlfriend.

The witness reportedly said Dority and his alleged partner have “a relationship where they often argue.”

Citing a police affidavit, the Detroit Free Press reported that Payne’s friend told investigators that the couple asked to come to Dority’s apartment to help Dority’s friend Tatiana Mesa.

Payne’s girlfriend’s name was blacked out in the police report.

Dority told police Payne had “nothing to do with being at his apartment so late at night” and that he found Payne’s “presence a threat,” TMZ reported, citing legal documents.

Police said Dority claimed Payne was making “movements with his right hand in the right side of his waistband,” before telling Dority, “I’m going to smoke you, Brah.”

Dority then grabbed a gun from his home and fired a round at Payne, police said. He reportedly told police that he was “protecting his family and home” and that “his actions were justified.”

“This man tried to come to my house, he drove around my block and tried to shoot me. … He pretends he has a gun and I shot him,” Dority said to 911, according to the affidavit cited by the Free Press.

But authorities noted that Payne, who was unarmed, “did not threaten Dority in any way.”
