An 18-year-old man has been charged with the deadly shooting of a father of two who punched him in the face during a road rage.
Jonathan Mehia has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated illegal use of a weapon in the shooting of 46-year-old Scott Mattison in broad daylight at 5:20 p.m. Sunday.
A prosecutor told Cook County Court on Wednesday that the quarrel between the two men began when Mattison from Glendale Heights tried to keep his pickup truck in his driveway.
Mehia stopped in a white Ford sedan and walked around Mathison instead of letting him finish, the prosecutor added.
Mattison then pulled in front of Mejia, forcing him to stop on Bartlett Road near Oltendorf Road.
Footage from Dashcam captured the moment Mattison got out of his truck before approaching Mejia’s sedan.
According to the prosecutor, a brief dispute arose and after an exchange of words, Mathison reached into the car and hit Mehia in the face.
Police then said Mathison had been shot several times near his liver, spleen and chest with a 9mm pistol. The video shows him taking a few steps back on the road.

Arik Lopez, who was walking nearby with his dogs during the incident, recorded parts of the shooting on his mobile phone before posting it on Snapchat. He told police that Mathison had nothing in his hands when he was shot, according to prosecutors.
“I heard a few shots,” Lopez told CBS Chicago. “There was controversy, one thing led to another, and the consequences came.”
After the shooting, Mehija drove to Steamwood Police Department to tell them his version of events, the prosecutor said.
Mathison was rushed to AMITA Health St. Alexius, shortly after he was discovered by police, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

Al-Cola’s lawyer asked for a “reasonable” bail for Majza in court on Wednesday. He described his client as a “family man” who attended school online and voluntarily turned himself in to police shortly after the shooting.
However, authorities said Mehia had previously been known as a juvenile offender.
Those closest to Mathison said their friend did not deserve to be shot suddenly and killed on a busy road, no matter what the two men were arguing about.
‘He didn’t deserve to die; to be shot as he was, “said Kevin Polka, who was Mattison’s boss and one of his closest friends. CBS Chicago. “He has always been for his daughters,” he added.
The two worked together in Polka’s small business called Paragon Mechanic Inc. Mattison worked as an installer for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
Asked if he was stunned by Mattison’s involvement in the brawl, Polka said:
“I don’t know if it surprised me if I just knew that if he didn’t, he would be here today. Scott made mistakes, he did. He was by no means perfect.

After his death, Mathison’s colleagues organized a fundraiser GoFundMe to help his daughters and cover funeral expenses.
As of Wednesday night, nearly $ 15,355 has been raised from a $ 30,000 target.
Meja has been detained without bail so far and his next scheduled appearance in court is on March 25.
Prosecutors said he could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted of first-degree murder.
