VIDEO: Florida officer sucked into drainpipe during heavy rain

A Florida official was sucked down a drainpipe after a flood by torrential rain, as was a local resident. According to Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, he announced that both survived by “luck”.

Escambia County Assemblyman William Hollingsworth was on patrol Friday when he saw a driver stranded after being caught in the rising water.

“At one point, Deputy Hollingsworth got out of his squad car to approach a citizen who was trapped in these rising waters.”Simmons remarked. “As he drew closer, Officer Hollingsworth saw the citizen fall into the water and, without regard for his own safety, rushed to his aid.”

The driver and Hollingsworth were sucked into a drain pipe and traveled nearly 100 feet underwater under Highway 98, a four-lane highway, for about 30 seconds before emerging across the street, Simmons added.

The video shows Hollingsworth catching his breath and helping the motoristand expressed surprise at the unusual fact.

The driver later explained in the footage that he “almost died” trying to catch his breath and that he was seen unharmed.

“Thanks man for being there when I came out.” The motorist said Hollingsworth, as the video showed. “When I came out, you were right behind me.”

Escambia County, located in the Florida Panhandle, was impacted by the storm which has fallen victim.

Areas in the south have been battered by severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in recent days.

The severe weather threat is expected to remain in parts of the northern Gulf Coast region on Mondayand centered on the Mississippi coast and east of the Florida Panhandle, including cities such as Mobile, Alabama, and Tallahassee.
