In recent days, a shocking video has been circulating on social media showing a giant great white shark entering a diving cage near Guadalupe Island, off the Mexican coast. When the animal arrived there was a diver in the equipment, but despite being very frightened it emerged unharmed.
The images were taken in 2016 and show the group of divers and instructors who were on the boat as the shark approached the cage to kill “its prey”, which was actually a floating piece of tuna, and not about the diver.
On Facebook, the author of the video explained that “they are temporarily blinded when they open their mouths. So when the shark grabbed the tuna bait on the rope, it accidentally hit the cage. You can’t swim backwards, so moves forward. Cage with a diver in it. I was calm, no one was hurt and after a dramatic half minute the diver came out safely.
Although the images were taken seven years ago, the video went viral again on Brazilian social media this week.
After a long 30 seconds, the diver reappears on the surface of the water, holding the camera he would use to film the shark catching its dinner.
The shark was also unharmed, but the footage from inside the cage was lost.
