The Israeli army, accused of dragging a Palestinian body at the end of a rope, regrets the scene. Viral videos show an Israeli army vehicle dragging the body of a lifeless man several meters behind it on the end of a rope. The images are real, but take place in Israel and not in Gaza as stated in the initial publication. The Israeli army speaks of “deplorable behavior” “not in accordance with orders” that will result in disciplinary action.
Both videos show the same scene. In the first case, an Israeli soldier binds the feet of a man, believed to be a Palestinian fighter, with a rope. In the second case, an IDF vehicle drags the man’s lifeless body at the end of the rope several meters. In the video, a soldier says: “They asked me to drag the terrorist outside onto the street. So there you have it, the Zibar.” [camion léger] takes the terrorists with them.”
Although the original tweet mentions a man killed in Gaza, the scene actually takes place on Israeli territory near Zikim Beach. When asked about the veracity of the events, the Israeli army did not deny it, but stated: “The behavior we see in the pictures is deplorable and does not correspond to the army’s orders.” The incident is known to us and is being handled by the commanders checked. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.”
It is currently impossible to know the exact date of registration, the identity of the person towed by the vehicle or even the reasons for this act. When questioned by France 24 observers, several demining companies claimed that such a practice had already taken place in theaters of war to ensure that the body was not mined. Hamas has been suspected in the past of using explosives, particularly to set booby traps in its tunnels.
Again, this is not the first time that the Israeli army has been accused of reprehensible behavior in the Zikim Beach area. On October 10, the Israel Defense Forces released a video that appeared to show soldiers shooting at four unarmed men whose hands were raised in surrender. The army then refused to comment on the crime scene.
