Last Wednesday (16th), a meteor exploded in the sky of Texas, United States, causing a powerful explosion. The space rock whizzing past over the town of McAllen was spotted by satellites from the country’s National Weather Service.

According to NASA, the meteor weighed about 450 kg and was 60 cm in diameter. “Entrance angles and velocity, as well as signatures on weather radar images, are consistent with those of other natural meteorite falls,” the statement said.

NASA also noted that data from radar and other sources suggests the phenomenon left small meteorites on the ground: “Meteorites cool rapidly and typically pose no risk to the public,” reads another excerpt.

On the day of the incident, local police received multiple calls from local residents who were afraid of the “blast.” One of them recorded videos showing the noise and rapid shaking caused by the meteor explosion.
