Michael J. Fox was greeted with much applause at the BAFTA ceremony on Sunday.
When the Back to the Future star came on stage to present the Best Picture award, he was greeted with loud applause from the all-star audience.
Everyone stood to give him a standing ovation, including Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett and Ryan Gosling. Michael J. Fox, 64, who has been battling Parkinson's disease since 1991, is in a wheelchair.
“It's not for nothing that people say that films are magical because they can change your day,” the actor said in his introduction to the award category. They can change your attitude and sometimes even your life.”
Fox attended the BAFTAs with his wife Tracy Pollan, 63. The actor's battle with Parkinson's disease has been well-documented since he publicly disclosed the illness in 1998.
He has been a tireless advocate for the disease, raising millions of dollars for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
In an interview in 2023, he revealed how he deals with aging with a progressive disease like Parkinson's.
“One day I’m going to run out of gas,” he told Town & Country magazine. One day I'll say to myself, 'That's not going to happen.' I'm not going out today.' If that happens, I'll allow myself to.”
