THE Brazilian trans actress, teacher, activist and prostitute Keyla Brasil stepped onto the stage Sao Luiz Theater in Lisbon last week and stopped the show”All about my mother‘, based on a film by the Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar.

The protest paid off. André Patrício was replaced by the Portuguese trans actress Maria João Vaz. However, Keyla has had to leave Lisbon after receiving threats.
She told the Portugal Giro column: “I’m not saying where I am, just in the mountains. I intend to go back, yes, but to a safe place. In one of the threats I received, a Portuguese man sent an audio saying that it was unacceptable for the Portuguese nation to be embarrassed by a Brazilian transvestite. He said he knew where I work, in a park in Lisbon. And that he would kill me there or send me back to Brazil in a wheelchair. That happens every day.”
