Report shows alarming numbers of motorists are still breaking the speed limit in areas with children and vulnerable people worrying, revealed by Quebec police chiefs this morning.
According to the Association of Quebec Police Directors (ADPQ), as many as 71% of drivers exceed the speed limit near schools and parks.
It is said that more than half of drivers drive too fast in residential areas.
“With the arrival of good weather, the end of classes and the start of day camps, it is important that drivers are aware of their responsibilities,” says Pierre Brochet, President of the ADPQ.

In this context, the association is launching its new awareness campaign against speeding this morning in the form of a video capsule.
It “aims to make the public understand that police do not issue tickets for fun, but to save lives and prevent collateral damage,” Brochet said.
The video was shot with police officers from the Service de Police de la Ville de Blainville and sheds light on their road safety prevention work.
The aim of the campaign is to show the person behind the uniform and develop the citizens’ good reflexes.
Alarming statistics
When it comes to speeding, motorcyclists appear to be by far the most reckless, with 60% of them regularly exceeding the legal speed limit, closely followed by car drivers (57%).
Heavy vehicle drivers are far behind, but 38% of them still exceed the speed limit, or 7% more than in 2021, according to ADPQ.
These limits are most often exceeded on motorways, where more than three quarters of drivers exceed the 100 km/h limit.
School or residential areas with 30 km/h come second, with 71% of users exceeding the permissible limit.
