Last week there was an incident at Zurich airport when an Edelweiss aircraft had to make an emergency stop on the runway. A recently released video shows the dramatic moments.

An Edelweiss aircraft bound for Faro, in Portugal, had to abort take-off from the runway at Zurich airport last Friday night. According to reports from passengers who were on board at the time, the aircraft initially taxied normally on the runway and then began to accelerate. However, unexpectedly, the aircraft began to shake, causing the pilot to apply emergency braking. The abrupt delay resulted in “everything flying around the cabin”, as one passenger described it to the “Blick” news platform.

Tire blowout and video recording

Emergency braking resulted in one of the plane’s tires bursting. A video now published on YouTube documents the entire scene, including the moment the machine suddenly turns to the left. Despite the critical situation, the pilot managed to stabilize the aircraft within a few seconds and abort the takeoff. The shocking images were captured by a journalist and provide a powerful insight into the frightening moments that unfolded on the catwalk.

Incident investigation

Andreas Meier, spokesperson for Edelweiss, confirmed the incident to “Blick”. The exact cause of the aircraft’s unusual behavior during takeoff is still being investigated. Various data assessments are intended to help clarify disruptive events and prevent possible future incidents of this type.
