New Delhi:

Two bombings killed at least 91 people in southern Iran on Wednesday, many of them part of a crowd that commemorated former Revolutionary Guard chief Qasem Soleimani four years after his death in a U.S. strike.

This attack occurred during a memorial ceremony near the grave of Qasem Soleimani, the former head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard who was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq in January 2020.

A video of the attack has emerged online, reportedly showing the moment one of the bombs exploded. The video begins on a busy street where a bus is slowly turning. At that moment, a massive explosion sounds in the background, filling the area with dust and smoke.

That attack is considered Iran's deadliest since 1978, when arson killed more than 370 people trapped in a cinema in Abadan, in the southwest of the country.

The Islamic State terrorist militia claimed responsibility for the bombing. In a statement, the terror group claimed that two of its members “activated their explosive belts” amid “a large gathering of apostates, near the grave of their leader.”

Iranian authorities said Friday that “one of the suicide bombers” was of “Tajik nationality.” The identity of the second attacker is still being determined. According to the ministry, at least 11 suspects were arrested in six Iranian provinces in connection with the attack.
