  • Ukraine has released a video that appears to show commandos on jet skis carrying out a daring raid into Crimea.
  • Ukraine claimed it had raised a flag on the peninsula for the first time in a decade.
  • The drone video shows the jet skis approaching the shores of the occupied peninsula.

Ukraine has released a video that appears to show a special forces unit on jet skis carrying out a daring attack on the occupied Crimean peninsula.

Previously, details were revealed of the Black Sea raid, in which a team of elite commandos reached the coast of Crimea on Ukraine’s Independence Day, August 24, and raised the country’s flag.

Ukrainian military intelligence agency GUR shared drone video showing the commandos on jet skis approaching the coast.

The final shot of the video was filmed on the ground and appears to show a group of Ukrainian soldiers with blurred faces holding up a Ukrainian flag. Insider could not independently verify this.

The peninsula was occupied by Russia in 2014 and Ukraine has long promised to retake it.

Elite special forces units carried out the attack on the Timur Group regiment, which operates under the command of the GUR, the agency said.

The elite team of Ukrainian soldiers told the Times of London that they caused damage to a powerful Russian electronic warfare station during the raid.

The GUR released another video on Thursday that appeared to show a second attack on Crimea by the Ukrainian special forces Artan.

The video also shows commandos on jet skis and speedboats, but few other details have been revealed and it is unclear when the second raid may have occurred.

The use of jet skis is Ukraine’s latest innovation that has helped it navigate the Black Sea conflict without even having a navy, insider Jake Epstein reported last week.
