An anti-mask activist was found guilty of mischief at a sports center in Donnacona. Frustrated by employees who forced him to wear the mask, the man, who is also accused of threatening François Legault in a separate case, knocked over a disinfection station.

Jimmy Brodeur went to the Donnacona Aquatic Center on March 16, 2022 to take his son there. When he arrived, the employees there were already on guard because of an initial verbal argument that had occurred two weeks earlier.

When she returned to pick up her child, the situation came to a head. Brodeur entered the center wearing a mask, gave employees the finger and then insulted them as he came out of the locker rooms.

“He said all that [le port du masque] It should be over that we were sheep, he complained. He said we were complicit in all of this. […] He was very upset, very angry,” the bar manager testified on Monday.

As they leave, Jimmy Brodeur comes back into the lobby and hits the centrally placed “Purell Station” with a kick, knocking it over.

Video clips submitted as evidence by the Crown show the sequence of events.

Guilty

Given the evidence, Judge Sarah-Julie Chicoine found the person guilty of mischief.

This criminal conviction is therefore added to the criminal complaint for disturbing the peace communicated to him by the Sûreté du Québec after the incident, in addition to the reimbursement of the device, which he agreed to pay, even if he appealed in his defense on Monday that the property was not damaged. The municipality also banned him from visiting the sports center for three months.

Since he visibly disagreed with the verdict, the defendant, who represented himself alone, lost his temper and resumed the speeches that were found en masse on his Facebook page. Jimmy Brodeur repeatedly said he wanted to see evidence that the judge had been sworn in by King Charles and that she could not convict him if she could not provide it to him.

The special police officers intervened and escorted the defendant out of the room.

His file will return on Friday for sentencing consideration.

Also accused of threats

However, Jimmy Brodeur is not yet at the end of his prison sentence, he is also accused of making threats to kill or harm, notably against the Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault, and the Director of Public Health, Luc Boileau. The denunciation file also mentions threats against “public officials, doctors and police officers in Quebec.”

The man was arrested following comments on social networks at the start of the election campaign in September 2022.

This second case will be heard in court again next January for the further trial of the 43-year-old.
