Hundreds of rescuers have been fighting for two days to save a 10-year-old boy who fell into a 35-metre hole at a bridge construction site in southern Vietnam.
Hundreds of rescuers fought Monday (January 2) to save a 10-year-old child who fell into a 35-metre hole at a bridge construction site in southern Vietnam two days ago.
Thai Ly Hao Nam was apparently looking for scrap metal when he fell into a concrete pillar just 25 centimeters wide while building a new bridge in southern Dong Thap province, a rescuer said.
“We’re doing our best. We can’t say what condition the boy is in yet,” added the rescuer, who only gave Sau’s name.
The child has stopped “interacting”
Authorities “are not sure about the boy’s current situation. He has stopped interacting with the outside world, although oxygen has always been pumped into the hole,” reported the Vietnamese newspaper Tuoi Tre.
According to media reports, rescuers attempted to pierce and soften the surrounding soil in an attempt to pull up the pillar and pull the child out.
On Monday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked federal rescue workers to join local authorities’ efforts to rescue the boy.
