Hundreds of rescuers struggled on Monday to save a 10-year-old child who fell into a 35-meter hole at a bridge construction site in southern Vietnam two days ago. Thai Ly Hao Nam was apparently with two friends looking for scrap metal when he fell into a hollow concrete pillar just 25 centimeters wide being poured to build a new bridge in southern Dong Thap province, a rescuer said by phone to Agence France -Press. this Monday, January 2nd.
“We give our best. We can’t say what condition the boy is in yet,” added the rescuer, who only gave Sau’s name. Authorities “are not sure of the boy’s current situation. It stopped interacting with the outside world, although oxygen was still being pumped into the hole,” reported Vietnamese newspaper Tuoi Tre.
Multiple failed attempts
The Dong Thap Ministry of Transport has mobilized eight excavators, cranes and augers and hundreds of police officers at municipal, regional and provincial levels to the scene.
