Viewers mock the cast of an actor who looks nothing like Steve Waugh in the Shane Warne miniseries

Viewers mock the cast of an actor who doesn’t look anything like Steve Waugh in Channel Nine’s Shane Warne miniseries: “Who is that supposed to be?”

The biographical television series about Shane Warne, entitled “Warnie,” launched Sunday night on Channel Nine.

And many viewers of the show couldn’t help but point out that the actor, who plays cricketer Steve Waugh, a good friend of the late Warne, doesn’t look very much like the real man.

In the series, Waugh is portrayed by talented Melbourne-based actor Tom Stokes, best known for his role in the British crime series Trigger Point.

Viewers weren’t impressed with what they saw, and many shared their thoughts on Twitter.

“It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen.” Is that supposed to be Steve Waugh? Haha,” one wrote.

“Guess who that’s supposed to be? Steve Waugh. No really,” joked another alongside a photo of Stokes as Waugh.

“There’s so much wrong with Warnie, but the fact that Steve Waugh doesn’t look like Steve Waugh at all is hard to overlook,” said another.

“Steve Waugh looks more like Bill Lawry,” another tweeted, while another asked, “Is this guy supposed to be Steve Waugh?”

“I don’t think I can stick with that.” They don’t even look like they’re the one they’re supposed to be playing against. Is that supposed to be Steve Waugh?” said one viewer.

“If they did such a bad job of casting Steve Waugh with an actor who looks nothing like him, it’s hard to imagine the rest,” wrote another.

“Mark Waugh looks even less like Mark Waugh than the actor who plays his twin brother,” said another.

“The guy doesn’t sound like Shane Warne at all. And the guy doesn’t look like Steve Waugh at all… we’re only on in 5 minutes,” tweeted another.

Ahead of the series premiere, Stokes said he’s looking forward to portraying Waugh, one of his heroes.

“I am delighted to share this with you.” Steve Waugh. A personal hero and a big part of my teenage years.

“It was exciting to delve deep into the man and his phenomenal accomplishments,” he wrote on Instagram.
