Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan lead actor Vikram Vedha has shown an average trend at the box office in its opening weekend. After opening at Rs. 10.58 crore on Friday, the film jumped 25% on Saturday to collect Rs. 12.51 million. This was followed by another 15% surge on Sunday, with estimates showing figures in the range of up to 15% Rs. 14.50 to 15 crores. That puts the opening weekend of Vikram Vedha in the Rs. 38 crores range.
This is a good result for a film that started at Rs. 10 crores, but a disappointing result for a film starring Hrithik Roshan. The film should have aimed for a weekend north of Rs. 50 crores, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. The film has done well in the multiplexes; However, the mass belts surprisingly didn’t come on board the film, despite the action-packed treatment.
The remake factor has gone against Vikram Vedha alongside the marketing and advertising campaign below. It’s not a losing battle yet as Vikram Vedha needs to remain steady over the next 4 days and finish the opening week at around Rs. 68 crores. This will put the film in a position to show some bulge again in its second weekend and reach a number that could be considered a respectable result, if nothing more.
Business in places like Gujarat has been affected by Navratri celebrations, while some areas in Kolkata and Bihar have been affected by Durga Pooja. These centers should better hold from Wednesday as the festive atmosphere will finally kick in from then.
The weekend business is on par with Akshay Kumar’s historical epic Samrat Prithviraj and better than Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor. It is also better than the Christmas releases like Bachchan Paandey, Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha. The reviews are pretty decent, and the hope is in the reviews helping the film last longer.
