As of Thursday, May 25, Vinted will no longer accept PayPal payments. A sudden change that worries users of the application, accustomed to this secure payment method.
As of May 25, Vinted no longer accepts payments through the PayPal app. The developers of the platform for selling and buying second-hand clothes informed their users with this simple message: “As of today, PayPal is no longer available on Vinted. To continue shopping without interruption, please add a new payment method. The most popular options are credit or debit cards, or Apple Pay if you’re using an iOS device. »

The fear of scams
“Please provide an alternative to Vinted. I don’t trust PayPal without it, it was the only way I was almost certain to get my money back in case of a scam…” asked a user on Twitter after receiving the message. “With the rise of fake accounts and the demise of PayPal as an easy and secure payment method with its dispute resolution system, Vinted is dead,” predicts Kévin, another Twitto.

Like Kevin, many internet users are publicly declaring that they are abandoning the application. The reason given? The alleged increase in scams in recent months and the relative effectiveness of claim support for disputes.
Ptdr vinted is now removing the option to pay via PayPal. Well it doesn’t matter, people continue to pay via PayPal but not through vinted anymore 🤷🏼♀️

With purchase protection and fraud protection, PayPal users could open a dispute. The American company acted as an intermediary between Vinted and the potentially aggrieved buyer and quickly offered refund options. A good way to bypass the relative slowness of the official customer service, since PayPal acts quickly:
“PayPal Purchase Protection covers all eligible purchases paid for with PayPal and payments made through our website. To take advantage of PayPal Buyer Protection, you must, among other things, have a healthy PayPal account and make sure that you report a dispute within 180 days of your purchase or payment,” the company explains on its website.
No official justification
At the time of writing, Vinted has not publicly explained its decision to remove PayPal from payment methods. The decision appears to be final, however, as the Lithuanian startup has decided to drop its PayPal payment page.
Users now need to change their default payment method. Several options are possible:
- a bank card (including prepaid cards and e-cards)
- Apple Pay (on iOS)
- iDEAL (mainly in the Netherlands)
- the Vinted wallet, thanks to its sales.
“Not all of the above payment methods may be available to every member,” the distribution platform states. Changing your default payment method couldn’t be easier. Just go to the “Profile” tab, then “Settings” and finally “Payments”. »
On its user help pages, Vinted clarifies that “Buyer Protection applies to all payments made through the Buy button in the app. You still need effective customer service!
