Viola Davis has achieved EGOT status after winning a Grammy for the audiobook performance of her memoir Finding Me.

The 57-year-old actress also made history as the third black woman, following Whoopi Goldberg and Jennifer Hudson.

Accepting the award, the ‘Woman King’ star said: “It’s just been such a journey. I EGOT!’

The acronym EGOT refers to entertainers who have earned an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.

Prior to Sunday’s annual awards ceremony, Davis had already won an Oscar, two Tonys and an Emmy.

“Oh my god,” she said on stage. “I wrote this book to honor six-year-old Viola, to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything.”

Last month, the veteran siren told Grammy.com that achieving EGOT status would be a “huge achievement.”

She thoughtfully added, “I think everyone wants their life to mean something. I believe in the Cherokee birth blessing which is, ‘May you live long enough to know why you were born.’

“I think you literally want to blow a hole through this world in whatever way you can. A lot of people don’t know how to do that. A lot of people haven’t found what they’re passionate about that they can do.

‘Some have. But we are all looking to blow a hole through this earth before we leave. I often think about that in my work. I’ve really found what I love to do. So I always want to make it meaningful.’

Viola, who hails from South Carolina, won the 2017 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Rose Maxson in Fences (2016).

She previously received an Emmy in 2015 for her role as Annalize Keating on How to Get Away with Murder

NBC reported that she became the first black woman to win the Lead Actress award.

The Hollywood play has received a Tony Award for King Hedley II as well as one for the Broadway production of Fences.

Viola accepted the honor in a striking colour-block dress with sequins and fringe accents.

She showed off her impressively slim and fit figure in the form-fitting short-sleeved model.

It was long with a crew neck and glittered black stripes to separate the bold shades of silver, blue and red.

The mother-of-one, who shares 12-year-old daughter Genesis with husband Julius Tennon, wore her hair in a side parting and let it swell around her face in a voluminous texture.

Davis sent a shout out to her family as she thanked “everyone who has been a part of my story and the best chapter yet, dear ones [husband and daughter]. You are my life and my joy, the best chapter in my book. Thank you very much!’

She wore a pair of sparkling silver hoop earrings, as well as a bracelet and statement rings.

The 65th Annual Awards Ceremony will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Trevor Noah.
