That day, unknown gunmen raided five villages, shot residents, and burned houses and other infrastructure.
Authorities estimate these individuals are linked to Islamist extremist groups operating in the area.
The death toll from the attack rose to 154 from the original 90, according to a city council member from the Garga rural district of Kanem governorate on the plateau.
The head of the Department of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, condemned the attacks and denied that they took place during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ikem Anibize added that the cities hardest hit by the attack were Kyaram and Gyambau, although heavy casualties were also reported in Dungur, Kukawa and Shuwaka, where the criminals broke in on motorcycles.
The displaced are receiving water, food, blankets and other supplies from the government, while a wide deployment of soldiers is maintained to try to locate the attackers.
In press statements, Nigerian Minister of Information Lai Mohammed blamed armed criminal gangs linked to the radical group Boko Haram, which has been operating in the African country for more than a decade.
