On the island of La Palma in the west of the Canary archipelago in Spain, at least 2,000 people were evacuated due to a forest fire, the authorities said on Saturday.

The fire that broke out in the north of the island in the early hours of Saturday morning La Palmais currently out of control and has forced the authorities to order evacuations.
At least 12 houses were destroyed, said Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo.
“The number of people who could be evacuated could increase. That depends on our ability to control strong winds,” he told reporters.

4,500 hectares burned
Next to 4,500 hectares of land were affected by the fire.
The Spanish army is in action 150 of his firefighters on site to assist local firefighters in fighting the fire.
