Violent pit bull attack: A 60-year-old woman has to have her leg amputated

A 60-year-old woman from Utah in the US is said to be still in hospital with serious injuries after her leg had to be amputated following a brutal pit bull attack by her son.

“The woman remains in hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries to her hands, face and legs, one of which required amputation. The attack was still in progress when police arrived,” Taylorsville police reported on Facebook Friday.

Early in the afternoon last Tuesday, police were called to the backyard of a private home where a 63-year-old woman had just been violently attacked by two adult pit bulls and their cubs, leaving her with “severe” injuries to her hands. face and legs, The Independent reported on Saturday.

It was the victim himself who, in the midst of the attack, managed as best he could to call the authorities for help. The dogs belonged to her 38-year-old son, who lived with her.

“The dogs were confined to the backyard and officers managed to keep them away from the woman, but when one got loose, it was fatally shot by police protecting her and by animal control officers on scene,” police continued continued.

The officers allegedly used pepper spray to push the dogs back before they managed to save the woman from the horde. According to The Independent, the latter were entrusted to animal services.

The sixty-year-old was transported to a hospital where her leg had to be amputated.

An investigation by police, as well as West Valley City Animal Services, is reportedly underway to shed light on the circumstances that led to the attack.
