Virtual Summit Inaugurated in India Voice of the Global South

NEW DELHI, 12th January (RHC) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched the Voice of the Global South virtual summit, which will bring together representatives from 120 developing countries, Africa, Latin America and Asia for two days.

The Indian ruler reiterated that the people of this region must not continue to be excluded from the fruits of development and stressed that attempts should be made to reshape global political and financial governance.

He pointed out that most of the world’s challenges were not caused by the Global South, but affect it to a greater extent, as evidenced by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, terrorism and even the Ukraine conflict.

The Indian Prime Minister added that this area is the most at stake in the future as three quarters of humanity live in these countries.

He added that India has always shared its development experience with the Global South and its development partnerships span across all regions and different sectors.

Modi said the world had turned the page in another difficult year, in which wars, conflict, terrorism and geopolitical tensions, along with soaring prices for food, fertilizer and fuel.

He added that to revitalize the world, countries should collectively call for a global agenda of response, recognition, respect and reform.

The summit, themed “Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose,” aims to bring countries from the Global South together and share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform on a range of issues, including food and energy security .

The opening and closing sessions of Voice of the Global South will be held at the Heads of State and Government level and chaired by the Indian Ruler.

A total of 10 sessions are planned, four this Thursday and six on Friday, and each will involve leaders and ministers from up to 20 countries. (Source:PL)
