Vivienne Westwood conducts an extraordinary life. His innovation and its effect in the past 60 years they were immense and will continue to have an impact in the future.
The designer never wanted to reveal her illness. His condition had deteriorated in recent daysbut everyone who was close to her spoke of a woman who had fought to the end.
The last words of the fashion rebel
A volcano of ideas and novelty in life, Vivienne wanted to stay loyal to her genius even on her deathbed. Her last words have practically made history: the designer reiterated to her loved ones the absolute need to take care of the planet. Westwood would have been 82 on April 8th. Her creations have dressed generations of young rebels like her, witnessing a fashion revolution with leather and studs first and corsets and panniers later.
Westwood is known for dominating the punk scene and for being the “mother” of some of the most beautiful dresses in bridal fashion. For several years his collection has been designed by his partner Andrew Kronthaler. Also awarded by queen elizabeth II. of the Order of the British Empire in 1992, the designer was so popular that supermodels of the caliber approached him Naomi Campbell presented to you free of charge.

“I will carry on Vivienne in my heart,” said Kronthaler, the designer’s husband and creative partner. “We worked to the end and she gave me a lot of things to go on with. Thank you darling. The world needs people like Vivienne to change for the better. She, who for the last few times has been the undisputed queen of the punk aesthetic, she considered herself a Taoist. There has never been a greater need for the Tao than today. The Tao gives you a sense of belonging to the cosmos and gives meaning to your life. It gives you such a sense of identity and strength to know that you are living the life you can and should live: live your character to the fullest and live your life to the fullest on earth.”
Civil and political engagement
Vivienne has always fought for justice and fairness and worked on a plan to save the world. Despite being 81, the rebellious designer was a political activist until shortly before her death. “Julian Assange – he recently declared – is a hero and has been treated cruelly by the British government”. Or again: “Capitalism is a crime. It is the main cause of war, climate change and corruption”. The Vivienne Foundation, a non-profit corporation founded by Westwood with his children and grandson in late 2022, will be formally established next year to honor and protect the legacy of Vivienne’s life, design and activism and continue to bring awareness and tangible change through working with NGOs based on four pillars: climate change, ending war, defending human rights and protesting against capitalism. The Vivienne Foundation exists to create a better world and implement Vivienne’s plans. Your final warning: stop climate change. This is a war for human existence. And the planet.
