Vladimir Guerrero Jr. makes the difference in Jay’s triumph

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who was not included in the American League’s starting lineup for the next All-Star Game, apparently had additional motivation before the meeting. Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning in Thursday night’s 2-1 win over the San Francisco Giants at the Rogers Center.

Whoever was put in as the batsman of choice during the meeting is having a good time these days. Vlad Junior hit his third long ball in seven games in Thursday’s duel. The 24-year-old has stretched his arms 12 times in 78 games since the start of the season.

Despite the number 27 cannon shot, Toronto’s offense was relatively calm throughout the evening. Only Daulton Varsho and Matt Chapman made it onto the trails.

However, the visitors were very threatening in the ninth round. Giants receiver Blake Sabol hit a single that allowed Patrick Bailey to score and reduce the lead to a single run. Jay’s late reserve Jordan Romano later had two of the three opposing batters he faced, making his 13th save of the season.

Jays starter Chris Bassitt was persistent throughout the match. The right-hander has only allowed three hits in six full innings. In addition, the 34-year-old shooter notched an impressive 12 strikeouts.

John Schneider’s men face a major challenge on Friday. They will play a three-game series against Eastern Division rivals the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox will visit the Queen City for the first time this season. The Massachusetts team had passed the broom to the Jays earlier this season during a series of four encounters at Boston’s Fenway Park.

The Marlins win in Boston

The Miami Marlins won their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox 2-0 Thursday night at Fenway Park.

Miami now has a record of 48-24. It’s the third time in team history they’ve gone at least 14 games over .500.

The Florida team accomplished this feat in the 1997 and 2003 seasons. Interestingly, they won the World Series at the end of those two seasons.
